AUS vs IND: 4th Test – Match hangs in balance as the rain plays spoilsport on day 2

The second day of the fourth Test between India and Australia had a premature finish as the downpour at the Gabba did not allow further play. After dismissing Australia for a score of 369 all out, India ended the day with 62 runs and two wickets lost. At the close of play, Ajinkya Rahane was at the crease accompanied by Cheteshwar Pujara. Earlier in the day, India wrapped up the bottom half of the Australian batting line-up.

Green and Paine put up a solid resistance

Australian captain Tim Paine (50) and their promising all-rounder Cameron Green (47) stitched a solid partnership for the sixth wicket. Paine celebrated his half-century in the process while Green fell three runs short. The duo kept annoying the Indian bowling unit. Their 98-run partnership carried Australia to safety.

Indian debutants impress

India’s debutants in this game, Washington Sundar (3/89) and T Natarajan (3/78), both managed to pick three wickets each. Shardul Thakur (3/94), playing his second Test match, was slightly expensive but the Mumbai pacer also grabbed three wickets. On the second day, Sundar claimed the key wickets of Green and Nathan Lyon while Natarajan finished the innings by dismissing Hazlewood.

Rohit Sharma falls after a good start

India lost Shubman Gill early but his senior partner Rohit Sharma looked good at the crease. Batting in his elements, Sharma was all set for a long haul. However, a minor lapse on the bowling of Nathan Lyon saw his downfall at the score of 44 runs. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara began their promising stand but the rain stopped any further play.
