Hitman special: 3 Records of Rohit Sharma that might never be broken
Rohit Sharma has a special place in international cricket for the records and achievements he created during his 14-year career. Rohit, a beast in the white-ball cricket especially in the ODI format, hasn’t managed to extend his success into Test cricket but has done enough to bag a few records in that format as well. Becoming a regular opener in 2013 is something that turned the table for Rohit after dull years at the start.
Here are the three records held by Rohit Sharma in International cricket which might stay forever:
The world record 264:
Rohit Sharma holds the record for registering the highest individual score in the history of ODI cricket with the 264 he smashed against Sri Lanka in 2014. The knock is a mountain to clear for any player due to various factors involved in it. By halfway mark, Rohit had just got to his fifty.
However, with the batting powerplay removed and the number of fielders outside the circle extending to five in the final ten overs, high acceleration that was caused in Rohit’s case might not be possible. Not much help for the bowlers and Robin Uthappa’s match awareness to return the strike in the last ten overs also did help Rohit big time.

Twin centuries in first-match as an opener:
Rohit Sharma announced himself as Test opener smashing over 300 runs in his first Test as the opening batsman in 2019 Vizag Test against South Africa. Rohit, under pressure, scored centuries in both innings and ended up winning the player of the match award. Considering the way openers are performing in recent times in the longer format, this record of Rohit might remain for a long time.
As on today, no player has scored twin centuries on Test debut while opening the innings. If any player gets to open the batting in the middle of the career, he might not produce such heroics considering the pressure he would probably be in to perform.
– The most 6s by an individual in a Test (13)
– The most 6s by a team in a Test (27)
– The most total 6s in a Test (37)On this week last year, the ball was flying around Vizag when @ImRo45 made his debut as a Test opener, posting 176 (244) & 127 (149)!pic.twitter.com/dTqRKwbbxe

Centuries against 7 different countries in a year:
In his dream 2019, Rohit Sharma smashed as many as ten hundreds which include seven in the ODI format. All the seven ODI tons that Rohit struck in 2019 came against different oppositions. Rohit struck a hundred against Australia in India’s first ODI of the year and a ton against West Indies later in December in their penultimate ODI of the year.
In between the two, he struck five centuries in the World Cup, all against 5 different nations. Rohit Sharma’s feat can be matched only in a year of ODI World Cup as players don’t get to play so many teams in a given calendar year. Even the format in which the tournament played could be mattered as Rohit had a shot at nine different teams during the ICC event held in England.
#OnThisDay in 2019, @ImRo45 became the first batsman to score 5 hundreds in a single world cup edition. He also equalled the record for most world cup hundreds (6 by Tendulkar/Rohit)
