Tears of joy and sorrow: 5 instances when cricketers broke down on the field
Cricket: the game of bat and ball is played with impetuous passion by our beloved cricketers. For them triumphing in this sport is all about that last concentrated burst of energy which is filled with the resolve to win. But with the game being called the greatest leveller, we have also seen our on-field heroes getting agonized thus eventually entering a life state of dreadfulness. In the end, it’s all about these plethoras of emotions which makes the game a wellspring of greatest life lessons. Here are five instances when cricketers broke down on the field.
5. Mohammed Siraj’s break down during the national anthem
While India did face their greatest agony when they were busted for 36 all out in Adelaide, Mohammed Siraj’s promising debut came down as a dazzling ray of light which fervently fostered itself into a memorable triumph at the MCG. His performances fetched a lot of glory mainly because of the way he is fulfilling his father’s dream by actually representing India as its second prominent seamer. The emotional moment was viewed when Siraj was seen wiping his tears during the customary national anthem event ahead of the SCG Test.

4. The agony of 2015 World Cup semi-final loss for South Africa
That brooding tag of chokers got once again evinced when South Africa suffered a heartbreaking loss against New Zealand. Very fondly regarded as one of the greatest ODIs of all time, the game was a highly intense see-saw ride wherein NZ held their nerves in crunch moments. The loss became the greatest grief for South African cricketers especially considering that they were one of the hot favourites to lift the World Cup.

3. The “Slapgate” of IPL
Although there isn’t any actual footage which shows Harbhajan slapping his India team-mate S Sreesanth, the crowd did witness the action between the two. The latter broke down on the field and was seen crying. Being termed as one of the unsporting events of Indian cricket it is believed that the aggressive actions of Harbhajan Singh had been caused because Sreesanth, while scalping wickets, was giving aggressive send-offs to MI’s players. Although Harbhajan was severely penalized, the matter was quickly resolved when Sachin Tendulkar had organized a special dinner to meltdown the harsh events.
@sreesanth36 ON SLAPGATE❗️
?: I literally begged & cried in front to the IPL Commisioner to not ban @harbhajan_singh. I was in kiddish mood & was trying to tease Baaji pa when he got out, couldn’t realise he was in different mood.#sports #coronavirus #sreesanth pic.twitter.com/KNibl6s5DB

2. Virat Kohli’s breakdown after India’s exit from 2012 World T20
No matter how profound Virat’s boldness is, he did have a meltdown moment when India was exiled from 2012 World T20. After winning the inaugural glory back in 2007, India had two awful T20 World Cups (2009 & 2010). The Men in Blue had an impressive start and had sharply qualified into the super-eight stages in 2012. But while facing Australia, India faced an anxious defeat which did become the significant cause of their exit. Although Virat Kohli had a splendid run (145 runs at an average of 46.25) the exit occurred because of the inferior NRR and the current Indian captain was in tears then.
1. Yuvraj and Harbhajan Singh after winning the 2011 World Cup
After India’s 2007 World Cup debacle, the mission to lift a World Cup on home soil was a breathtaking affair for every Indian fan. The fact that it was the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s last World Cup appearance made it even more definite. Although Yuvraj Singh was one of the architects for fetching the glory, Harbhajan Singh also did perform significantly well. While carrying the little-master on their shoulders, both the cricketers expounded some happy tears and cherished the accomplishment.
