Goodbye, 2020: 5 players who disappointed with their performances this year
2020 was an adverse year for international cricket. There were more than 12 international tours which were completely wiped out because of the pandemic. Regardless of having bio bubbles now, playing successively along with coping the demands of the game at the highest level has started to become an arduous challenge for players.
However, with cricket and players slowly getting back to their routine affair, there are still some who are yet to shine despite giving their robust efforts. So here’s a list of five players who were a disappointment in 2020.
5. Jason Roy
Ever since Roy made his debut back in 2015 he has been a brutal force for England, especially in the ODI format. However, the year 2020 will become an exception as the opener has been utterly impoverished with his blade. In eight ODIs, Roy had a diminishing run where he only scored an aggregate of 102 runs which produces an average of 12.75, making him one of the biggest disappointments of 2020.
4. Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal’s 2020 has surely ended in a disastrous way especially considering the way he was taken to the cleaners by the Aussies in the limited-overs series. Regardless of coming in as Ravindra Jadeja’s substitute in the first T20I and helping India win, Chahal’s overall numbers are quite an ordeal in itself. In nine T20Is, he only scalped seven wickets with an economy rate of 9.1.
3. Mayank Agarwal
This is surely not a list that a player of Mayank’s calibre would like to be in but his numbers do agonise Indian fans. Being India’s first-choice opener in Test cricket, Mayank has only been able to cumulate 128 runs from his six outings so far in 2020. His limited-overs stint also doesn’t galvanise any form. The opener, in his five ODIs, has only been able to make 82 runs which are surely below par especially considering his quality of batsmanship.
2. Roston Chase
Roston Chase who was merely a Test match all-rounder for West Indies did play a handful number of ODIs in 2020. From his five ODIs, Chase was only able to amass 82 runs which brought his average down to way below 20. His Test matches numbers also exhibit a similar story where the all-rounder was only able to muster 174 runs from his 10 innings.
1. Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw had a dream start to his international career which eventually brought him in contention for India’s reserve opener spot in Test cricket. But since then his progression chart exhibits a catastrophic storyline where the opener, in his three Test matches by now, has only been able to accumulate 102 runs. By featuring in the ODIs earlier in the year, Prithvi continued his mediocre stint as he only averaged 28 from his three innings.
