Highest run-rate in T20 tournaments in last 1 year; No.1 is shocking!
The T20 format has taken over the cricket calendar, especially in the year 2020 that is disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, the evolution of the format has led to almost every major cricketing nation coming up with its own T20 league. This has led to the fans comparing them with each other as to which league is the best.
The quality of cricket played in most of the T20 tournaments is top-notch and the fans enjoy it to the hilt. But the Pakistan Super League (PSL) which concluded only recently owns a unique record if the cricket played in last one year is taken into account.
PSL tops the list
The playoffs of the PSL took place soon after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 in the UAE. The tournament was called off after the league stage in March this year due to the Covid-19 outbreak but the PCB managed to conclude the tournament. The Karachi Kings won the PSL title for the first time in history.
Coming back to the record owned by PSL – the tournament has the best run-rate among the top 8 T20 leagues across the world. In PSL 2020, 8.64 runs were scored per over and it topped the list trumping Super Smash, which witnessed 8.54 runs being scored per over.
IPL in 4th place
The IPL stands in fourth place on the list after the batsmen in the tournament scored 8.28 runs per over. Mumbai Indians won the 2020 edition and lifted the title for a record fifth time. Interestingly, the South African Mzansi Super League has better run-rate than IPL and sits at the third position.
England’s T20 Blast and Bangladesh Premier League are tied at fifth place with 8.22 run-rate while the Big Bash League follows them in this aspect. The poorest run-rate is of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) which witnessed below-par pitches this season with teams bagging some embarrassing records as well.
