Big news: Quinton de Kock named South Africa Test captain

South Africa batsman and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock has been promoted as South Africa’s Test captain for the 2020-21 season. Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed the news on Friday (December 11).

Earlier, Director of Cricket Graeme Smith had asserted that de Kock had enough responsibilities as a senior member of the national team. However, it looks like the CSA has now taken a U-turn and has gone ahead with the appointment.

The Proteas are set to play a two-Test series against Sri Lanka, starting December 26 at Centurion. While injured Kagiso Rabada and Dwaine Pretorious continue to be monitored, three other uncapped players have been included in the squad.

Full South Africa Test squad: Quinton de Kock (captain), Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, Faf du Plessis, Beuran Hendricks, Dean Elgar, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Rassie van der Dussen, Sarel Erwee, Anrich Nortje, Glenton Stuurman, Wiaan Mulder, Keegan Petersen, Kyle Verreynne.
