5 currently active Indian cricketers who may not feature anymore in ODIs
Cricket in India can be classified as a religion in itself which has made the Indian cricket team and the BCCI the powerhouse of this game. The billion-plus fans and their realm of enchantment are the biggest stakeholders in the emergence of this powerhouse. Speaking about enrobing the Indian jersey across formats then it’s a piece of cake which only a bunch of few players are fortunate enough to enjoy and while others are not because of their age factor or having limited skill sets or maybe because of some other uncontrollable reasons like getting born in the wrong era. So here’s a list of 5 such current Indian players who might not be seen in ODIs again because of the above factors.
5. Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav ever since he donned the India jersey back in 2014 has experienced a bumpy ride in his ODI career. By looking into his career then one can easily spot him inheriting what Suresh Raina used to perform in the ODI team. But his indistinct performances and his lean run in the 2019 World Cup resulted in his elimination from the ODIs. Jadhav’s comeback in the team looks merely uncertain with his age (35) being the massive decisive factor.

Cheteshwar Pujara, who is the new wall of India’s batting order in Test cricket did get featured in India’s white-ball set up. His inclusion in the ODI side for the Asia Cup 2014 had mainly happened when he emerged as the highest run-getter during India’s trip to South Africa for Tests back in 2013. Although his debut happened in Zimbabwe in 2015, Pujara couldn’t score big. However, in 2019, Pujara scored his maiden T20 hundred in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy and did express his aspirations for an ODI comeback which in reality looks highly elusive.
3. Ajinkya Rahane
Much before the 2015 World Cup, Rahane was in contention for India’s no.4 spot and was often used as a reserved opener. However, he was last seen in February 2018 in ODIs. Overall, he has played 90 ODIs having an average of 35.26. At no.4, he scored 843 runs in 27 matches averaging 36.65. A lot of cricket pundits have felt that his omission from the ODIs has been like removing a fly from the milk.
His chances of revival in ODIs look highly slim mainly because of the long list of players like Iyer, Rahul, Pandey eyeing for potential middle-order slots.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin who is India’s premier Test match spinner did play his last ODI match in 2017. His elimination had mainly come in when the team management wanted to experiment with the leg-spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzi Chahal because of the trend where the leg spinners across the world had started to provide crucial breakthroughs in the middle-overs passage in ODIs. However, Ashwin since his elimination has worked hard on his bowling to make his case of a potential comeback but looks like the selectors have already moved on.
1. Dinesh Karthik
DK who has possibly batted in every position for India whether it was about opening in Test matches in England or batting at no.7 in Nidahas Trophy final has seen peaks and valleys in his long career. However, the 35-year-old after getting featured in 2019 World Cup hasn’t been picked in any form of cricket which India has played and might have permanently slipped from selectors’ radar.
