AUS vs IND: 2nd ODI Preview – India eye comeback after crushing defeat

Aaron Finch’s Australia and Virat Kohli’s India will take on each other at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the second ODI on Sunday. This series started off with a 66 run victory for the hosts, as captain Aaron Finch and Steve Smith notched up 100s, posting a huge total of 374/6.

The Indian team started off decently, but a collapse after the fall of Mayank Agarwal’s dismissal meant that the scoreboard pressure eventually got to the team after an explosive start by the openers. India have now suffered 4 consecutive defeats in ODIs. However, India won against Australia 2-1 after losing the 1st game the last 2 times they defeated Australia, once at home (Jan 2020) and once in Australia (Jan 2019). They will now be looking to give it their all to remain alive in the series.

Team News:

Australia:

Australia made their record ODI total against India. Besides Smith (Man of the Match) and Finch, Warner and Maxwell also chipped in with valuable contributions. Starc looked a bit off-colour, but Hazlewood bowled an exceptional spell to pick up the wickets of Agarwal, Kohli and Iyer at the top. Stoinis left the field while bowling after a slight niggle, so it remains to be seen if he is available for the next game. Finch won’t be looking to chop and change things much.

India:

India certainly missed the experience of Rohit Sharma at the top of the order, with wickets falling at the other end. Dhawan and Pandya’s form with the bat is a positive sign for Kohli’s men going into the next 2 do-or-die matches. However, Kohli also stated that Pandya won’t be able to bowl for now. This limits the team to just 5 bowling options.
