Sachin Tendulkar’s special message on World Children’s Day
November 20 is celebrated as ‘World Children’s Day’ across the world. On this special occasion, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar caught up with an Afghanistan journalist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Hinna Asefi Wardak and 14-year-old Riya from Madhya Pradesh, India.
As the UNICEF Ambassador for South Asia, Tendulkar has constantly been working towards significant causes that impact the society, including hygiene and sanitation. On World Children’s Day, the former India captain spoke to Hina and Riya via video conferencing, supporting and encouraging their efforts.
Keep the inner child alive
Apart from conveying his best wishes to the young girls, Tendulkar had an important message for all the youth of the world. The Master Blaster said that one must always keep the child in them alive, no matter how old we grow. It is how one stays curious and gets to learn new things in life every single day. Both Hinna and Riya were quick to answer some of the questions posed by Tendulkar and the cricket legend wished them all the best to achieve their dreams. He also asked for a change in mindset when it comes to girls and their progress in sports.
Handwashing is important
Tendulkar has always been vocal about sanitation practices in the country. And with the unprecedented arrival of Covid-19, it is now an even more vital part of maintaining one’s personal hygiene as well as that of society. Once again, Tendulkar stressed on the importance of washing hands and keeping oneself and the surroundings cleaner than ever. The legendary batsman narrated incidents from his younger days when he wouldn’t eat his food without washing his hands thoroughly.
