Women’s Cricket: Fastest T20I fifties of all time
The world of Women’s Cricket has been blooming with a sense of great excitement and zeal over the last few years. There have been record-making games, great effort, perfect execution, and planning to watch out for. The recently-concluded Women’s T20 Challenge also displayed some quality cricket. Talking about centuries and half-centuries, women’s cricketers have made some exceptional records, especially in T20I cricket.
In the same light, let’s see the fastest T20I fifties in Women’s Cricket:
5. Deandra Dottin (22 balls)
A hard-hitting Caribbean batter, Deandra Dottin has the record of scoring the first century in women’s T20Is in 2010. She stands fifth in the list of fastest T20I centuries by women cricketers. She smashed a 22-ball fifty against women from Australia in the 2009 World T20, and it was her maiden international fifty that came in style.
4. Sophie Devine (22 balls)
During the Women’s World T20 in 2018, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine amassed 51 runs in 22 balls in her team’s final match of the tournament to brush aside the Ireland side. While both teams only locked horns for pride, NZ finished the match on a high by winning it with eight wickets.
3. Alyssa Healy (21 balls)
The right-handed wicket-keeping batter of Australia, Alyssa Healy hit the third fastest T20I half-century in Women’s cricket. She smashed a 21-ball fifty as Australia thrashed Ireland. In most recent developments, she recorded the fastest fifty (50 off 30 balls) in the history of ICC finals events in both men’s and women’s cricket against India earlier this year.
2. Nida Dar (20 balls)
A Pakistan international cricketer, Nida Dar came in limelight in 2018 when she took her maiden five-wicket haul and registered the best bowling figures in Pakistan T20Is. It happened during the 2018 Women’s T20 Asia Cup against Sri Lanka. She also has the record of hitting the second-fastest T20I fifty in Women’s cricket. It came against South Africa in the fourth T20I of the bilateral series. She scored 75 off 37 balls in the same match, which also stands to be the highest T20I score by a Pakistan woman. Her fifty in that innings came off only 20 balls.
1. Sophie Devine (18 balls)
The great Kiwi all-rounder, Sophie Devine has established her name well enough in the field of Women’s Cricket. She is known for her peculiar habit of not wearing the helmet while batting, which stands to be a rarity in the 21st century. She also holds the prestigious record of hitting the fastest T20I fifty in Women’s Cricket. In July 2015, she smashed 50 off just 18 balls against the Indian women’s team to set the record.
