BBL 10: Lewis Gregory joins Brisbane Heat for debut season

Gregory

Brisbane Heat have roped in English all-rounder Lewis Gregory as their third international signing for the upcoming Big Bash League. This will be Gregory’s first BBL season after having played in the Bangladesh Premier League and Pakistan Super League.

28-year-old Gregory made his first-class debut for Somerset in 2011 and has been a prolific performer at the domestic level. He went on to make his T20I debut against New Zealand in November 2019. A right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium pacer, Gregory captains Somerset in England’s premier T20 tournament, the Vitality Blast.

Coach Darren Lehmann said Gregory was the perfect addition to boost the Brisbane Heat squad.

The all-rounder said he was pleased to be part of Australia’s premier T20 tournament.

“We certainly kept a close eye on Tom’s performances for the Heat last season and so I’m rapt to have the chance to experience a world-class tournament like the BBL at first hand,’’ Gregory said.

“I’ve enjoyed the challenge of adapting to conditions when I played in the BPL and PSL and got some good insights into Australian conditions during the Lions tour so I’m certainly excited to be heading to the Heat,’’ he added.

Gregory is expected to be available for the entire duration of the Big Bash League. He joins Mujeeb Ur Rehman and Somerset teammate Tom Banton as the third international recruit for the Heat.

The tenth edition of BBL is likely to start on December 3 with the Adelaide Strikers taking on the Melbourne Renegades at the Adelaide Oval.
