IPL 2020: CSK vs KXIP Review – Departing Chennai knock Punjab out with clinical win

Chennai

Chennai Super Kings have spoiled the party for Kings XI Punjab as well with yet another comfortable win to end their IPL 2020 campaign. KXIP have also been knocked out of the IPL with this loss after coming back strongly with five wins on the trot.

Earlier, MS Dhoni won the toss and invited KXIP to bat first. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal started well before Lungi Ngidi castled him. Despite scoring more than 50 runs in the Powerplay, KXIP lost their way completely. Their top-order batsmen including Rahul and Chris Gayle got out soon. At 72/4 in the 12th over, the situation looked tough for the Rahul-led side.

Things soon turned worse as they were reduced to 113/6 in the 18th over. However, Deepak Hooda was set by then and he took the attack to the Chennai bowlers in the death overs to propel Punjab to 153/6 in 20 overs. Hooda smashed an unbeaten 62 off just 30 balls with three fours and four sixes.

But the chase was never going to challenge CSK with the way their openers were batting. Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 82 runs for the first wicket. Despite the former getting out, CSK never looked in trouble. Gaikwad once again showed his class and this time, remained unbeaten on 62 as CSK got over the line in the 19th over itself.
