IPL 2020: DC vs MI Review – Boult-Bumrah run through Delhi to complete 9th win
Mumbai Indians have literally steamrolled the Delhi Capitals to seal their top-two spot in the ongoing Indian Premier League, thanks to Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah’s terrific bowling. After winning the toss, Mumbai skipper Kieron Pollard invited the Capitals to bat first and it was all one-way traffic since then.
While Shikhar Dhawan’s barren run continued, Prithvi Shaw’s return to the team didn’t help either. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer stitched 35 runs together for the third wicket but there was no momentum to the innings at all. Jasprit Bumrah came back for his second spell to nip out Stoinis and Pant while Rahul Chahar got the better of Iyer. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals as MI restricted DC to a paltry 110/9 in 20 overs.
The chase was never going to be tough for MI and once again, Ishan Kishan did a fantastic job in making light work of it. After starting slowly, Kishan launched an attack on all the bowlers who came his way and ended up smashing an unbeaten 72 off just 47 balls. His partner Quinton de Kock added 28 runs before getting out. But then Suryakumar Yadav came out and made sure he played the perfect second fiddle to Kishan. MI got over the line in the 15th over to seal their ninth win of the season and strengthen their place at the top.
Turning Point
Boult’s opening spell – Though Ishan Kishan won the Man of the Match for his blistering knock, it was Trent Boult who started it all for MI with the new ball. First, he got the better of Dhawan in the first over of the innings and then put extreme pressure on Shaw to induce a false shot from him. After losing two wickets upfront with only 15 runs on the board, DC never recovered while Boult ended up with figures of 3/21 in his four overs.
