IPL 2020: Sunil Narine reported for suspect bowling action against KXIP

Narine

Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Sunil Narine has been reported for suspect bowling action in their match against Kings XI Punjab on Saturday (October 10). The Caribbean was instrumental in KKR’s 2-run win over the KL Rahul-led side.

“The report was made by the on-field umpires according to the IPL’s Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Policy, Narine will be placed on the Warning List and is permitted to continue to bowl in the tournament,” an official Indian Premier League release stated.

If reported once more, Narine will be suspended permanently from bowling in the tournament this year. He will only be eligible to bowl again after clearing his action by the BCCI Suspect Bowling Action Committee.

Not the first time

This is not the first time that Narine has been reported for his bowling. In the 2014 Champions League, he was reported twice. He then missed the 2015 World Cup to work on his bowling action. In the same year’s IPL, he was in trouble once again and was suspended from bowling in November. The trouble continued in 2016 when he had to pull out of the T20 World Cup despite the ICC clearing his action.

The off-spinner has struggled to get going in IPL 2020 with the bat. KKR continued the experiment of opening with him but it didn’t pay off. However, Narine has started to come into his own with the ball since the last few games. As the tournament progresses, KKR wouldn’t want to lose a vital cog like Narine.
