IPL 2020: KKR vs SRH Review – Classy Gill takes KKR over the line in low-scoring game

KKR

The Kolkata Knight Riders upped their game after a poor show in their previous outing, having comfortably defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 8 of IPL 2020 on Saturday. This is the first victory of the season for KKR, while SRH continue the hunt for their first win.

David Warner opted to bat first after winning the toss, going against the popular belief in the tournament so far. He scored 36 off 30 deliveries before getting out in the 10th over. Manish Pandey then smacked an impressive 51 as SRH crawled to 142/4 in their 20 overs with no other batsman contributing much to the total.

In reply, KKR lost three wickets with just 53 runs on the board which made the game interesting. However, Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan made sure there were no more hiccups in the chase. The former was superb scoring an unbeaten 70 and showing his class while Morgan scored 42* off 29 balls to take KKR over the line with seven wickets and two overs in hand.

Turning Points

David Warner’s wicket: While the game was pretty straightforward, one felt that Warner’s wicket was crucial for KKR as he was about to go berserk. However, the strategic timeout undid him and soon after the game resumed, Varun Chakravarthy got the better of him. And after that, SRH could never score runs at a pace they would’ve liked to.
