IPL 2020: Shane Warne joins Rajasthan Royals as mentor and brand ambassador
Rajasthan Royals have decided to avail the services of their only IPL-winning captain, Shane Warne. The inspirational leader carried the Royals to their only title victory in the inaugural IPL edition in 2008. The legendary cricketer will also act as their brand ambassador for the second consecutive year. He will soon join the team in the UAE. The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League commences on 19th Septemeber.
As a team mentor, Warne will function alongside his fellow Australian head coach Andrew McDonald. Warne and McDonald were also teammates in their Australian domestic team, Victoria from 2003 to 2007.
Thanks boys. Looking forward to being back & helping the off field team push the royals brand – plus watching the game from the stands and being on hand to offer any advice if required !!! https://t.co/tIjE2IgUEc

In a media release by Rajasthan Royals, Warne expressed his feeling about playing the dual role for his IPL team. “It’s always a great feeling to be back with Royals, my team, my family. It’s exciting to be working across all elements of this franchise that I love. We have worked towards our vision of becoming a global team that fans around the world love and follow,” the Australian legend stated.
Warne featured in 55 IPL matches. Although the bowler was past his prime, his leadership helped the Royals build a strong unit despite not having any big names. He claimed 57 wickets in his IPL career and remains the first captain to win the IPL.
