Highest individual scores in List-A cricket
For so many years, scoring a century in limited-overs cricket was considered an excellent achievement. Not that it isn’t important now. But with the advent of the T20 format, 200 is no more a difficult score to achieve for a batsman. India batsman Rohit Sharma has crossed the magical number thrice and boasts 264 as his highest score in international cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar was the first-ever cricketer at the highest level to score a double century. Since then, the likes of Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill also achieved the feat apart from Rohit. At the international level, India’s current vice-captain holds the record of the highest individual score in the ODIs.
But not many are aware of the fact that Surrey’s Alistair Brown had scored a mammoth 268 off just 160 deliveries against Glamorgan back in 2002. He still owns the record of the highest individual score in List-A cricket which includes all the domestic one-day matches including the international games.
D’Arcy Short and Shikhar Dhawan also in the list
Rohit Sharma is at the second position on this list with his exceptional 264 against Sri Lanka while Australia’s D’Arcy Short is at the third place. He amassed 257 runs off just 148 balls while playing for Western Australia against Queensland almost two years ago. His knock also helped him to return to the national side, albeit for a brief period.
Shikhar Dhawan also features in the list of top five highest individual scores in List-A cricket and is the only player in the list to achieve the feat away from his home country. He smashed 248 off only 15 deliveries playing for India A against South Africa A in August 2013. It was one of the reasons for his comeback in the Indian ODI team.
The fifth and last name is of New Zealand’s prolific opener Martin Guptill who slammed an unbeaten 237 against West Indies during the World Cup in 2015. It will be interesting to see if any batsman breaks Brown’s 18-year-old in the future
