Sachin Tendulkar raises efforts to support the needy during troublesome times
Since March 2020, India and the world have changed drastically. The scourge of coronavirus pandemic has changed the way we lived. It has impacted our lives inside out and we are still in the process of recovering from it. In such tumultuous times, many have come ahead to help in every way they can and one of them is India’s pride, Sachin Tendulkar.
While Tendulkar has always been giving back to society, he has continued in the same vein in such unforeseen times. In March this year, the batting maestro contributed generously to the Prime Minister’s relief fund. Amongst all the Indian states, Maharashtra suffered the greatest plight. Tendulkar helped the Chief Minister’s relief fund with a large donation to fight the dreaded coronavirus.
After entertaining millions with his spectacular strokes on the field, Tendulkar has been impacting lives of many in his second innings as well. His donations, in these difficult times, thus far have reached a total of more than 13,000 people. He ensured the deep reach of the program via CFTI which helped 2,670 residents of Alibaug. Nearly 4,000 underprivileged children received help via Hi5 while through Apnalaya, he served around 5,000 people from the urban poor cadre.
During the pandemic, there were strict measures imposed on human movement. It became extremely difficult for the slum-dwellers to sustain their livelihoods in such circumstance. The Centre for the Study of Social Change (CSSC), an NGO based out of Bandra East took a lead in feeding those living in the slums. Tendulkar’s donation aided CSSC’s President Dr. Bhojraj and his team in reaching out to 1,650 people and help their cause. The Master Blaster also supported lives of about 500 people via helping GSB Seva Mandal.
Awareness of the safety measures is a major step in winning the battle against this dreadful pandemic. Reaching out to millions who love him unconditionally, Tendulkar has been educating on health and sanitation measures via all available digital channels. He led the Mask Force initiative which was launched by the Government of India. The Master Blaster heartily thanked corona warriors in another of Government’s campaign and has also been working with the UNICEF to fight against the pandemic. In July, he inaugurated a plasma donation centre in Mumbai and urged completely recovered coronavirus patients to donate their blood for plasma therapy.
Encouraging young doctors, Tendulkar interacted with around 12,000 orthopaedic doctors across the country in a session where he shed light on sports injuries. Sharing from his own experiences, the legendary cricketer volunteered to be a part of this interactive session. On the occasion of the Mother’s Day, he thanked mothers from all over the world for their selfless service to the nation in the coronavirus battle.
