Bangladesh pacer Qazi Onik has received a 2-year ban from all forms of cricket after the cricketer failed to clear a doping test conducted in 2018, it has been reported.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Monday (July 27) released an official statement confirming the suspension. According to BCB, the 21-year-old breached section 8.3 of the BCB’s Anti-Doping Code by taking a drug Methamphetamine during an NCL clash in Cox’s Bazar on November 8, 2016. The substance is prohibited under section S6a of the 2018 International Cricket Council (ICC) Prohibited List. It is also prohibited under the BCB Anti-Doping code 2.1, which has adopted the ICC Anti-Doping Code.

The board further confirmed that it has removed Onik from every BCB programme that he was part of and that he was not to participate in any cricket activities. The cricketer has accepted the ban imposed on him by the BCB.

The fast bowler accepted a provisional suspension on February 8 2019, which means he’ll only be eligible for readmission two years from the said date.

Onik was Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in the 2018 U-19 World Cup with 10 wickets at an economy of 4.58. He has taken 15 wickets in four first-class matches, 41 wickets in 26 List A matches and 11 wickets in nine T20I games so far.
