Sam Curran self-isolating in hotel room after falling ill

England all-rounder Sam Curran has self-isolated in his hotel room at the Rose Bowl in Southampton falling ill on Wednesday (July 1). The ECB announced Curran will no longer feature in England’s intra-squad warmup game that’s currently underway.

Curran, who is part of Team Buttler, scored an unbeaten 15 on Day 1 but complained of sickness and diarrhoea the same night. The ECB confirmed he felt better by Thursday afternoon but they continue to monitor his health.

“He (Curran) has been monitored by the team doctor throughout and was tested for COVID-19 earlier today,” ECB said.

A 30-member group of England players have been preparing for the upcoming Test series at the Rose Bowl since June 23. The 3-match Test series will be played between England and West Indies in a biosecure environment. The first Test begins on July 8.

Joe Root is set to miss the first Test as he has returned home for the birth of his second child. In his place, Ben Stokes will be leading England, with Jos Buttler named vice-captain.

Since the beginning of their preparatory camp, all England players and officials are being tested twice a week, the ECB confirmed. All 702 COVID-19 tests conducted before the camp started returned negative.
