3 Team cricket match pushed to Nelson Mandela International Day (18 July)

3 Team cricket

South Africa’s innovative 3 Team cricket match will now take place on Nelson Mandela International Day (18th July) instead of 27th June. The modification comes after the South African government allowed return to practice and approved cricket. The match details are still the same.

Three teams of eight players will take part in this innovative format. They will be playing for the inaugural Solidarity Cup. The Eagles will be captained by AB de Villiers, Kagiso Rabada will lead the Kingfishers while Quinton de Kock shall skipper the Kites.

CSA Acting Chief Executive Dr. Jacques Faul said, “It’s very exciting to get live cricket, featuring our top players, back on our TV screens again. I can’t think of a more appropriate day on which to hold this game than Nelson Mandela Day when its prime objective is to raise funds for those who have been badly affected by the Coronavirus. It is still nearly three weeks away, so it also gives our players more time to prepare properly and to minimise the chance of injuries.”
