Former Delhi cricketer Sanjay Dobal succumbs to coronavirus

Former Delhi cricketer Sanjay Dobal passed away on 29th June (Monday) due to coronavirus infection. Aged 52, the cricketer was employed with Air India and was a popular figure in Delhi cricket for his helpful nature.

On 28th June, one of the senior Delhi cricketers in the current setup, Mithun Manhas had raised an appeal to help Dobal with plasma donation. The appeal included that Dobal was suffering from a severe case of pneumonia. After three weeks of his treatment, he was tested positive for coronavirus. By this time, his lungs had deteriorated severely. The appeal was further shared by former India cricketers Aakash Chopra, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag.

Today (29th June), Manhas confirmed that Dobal was no more. While Dobal didn’t play in the Ranji Trophy, he was associated with coaching junior cricketers after his playing days with Air India team were over. He is survived by his wife and two sons – Siddhant, who plays first-class cricket for Rajasthan and Ekansh, currently an Under-23 player for Delhi.
