BCCI eyeing August-September window to host camp for Team India: Reports

BCCI

With the Indian government easing lockdown restrictions in a phased manner, the possibility of cricket resumption is starting to look real. Reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mulling over a preparatory camp for Team India.

A BCCI official has revealed that the board is targeting the months of August and September to host a camp for the players, who have spent considerable time indoors. The camp will aim to get them back into the zone and prepare for the upcoming assignments.

“Looking at getting ready for once monsoon ends. It should be around the August-September window that we will get the players together and work on their game and get them back into the zone.”

“You have to understand that there is a muscle memory that needs tuning and these guys are all professionals. So, it will be more about the mental aspect than the physical aspect as they have already been working on their fitness even during the lockdown,” the official told IANS.

NCA to host camp?

Reports also suggest that the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru is likely to be the venue for this camp. However, the inter-state movement laws are still too strict to confirm any decision.

“Too early to say that. Let inter-state movement get further relaxed, let’s see how things stand in a month or so and then we can decide on whether the camp will be at the NCA or somewhere else,” the source added.

The Indian cricketers have enjoyed a rather extended timeout with their families at home, owing to the outbreak of coronavirus in the country. Which also means that they will need some extra time to fine-tune their skills and get their focus back on the game. A break in the cricket calendar only means that the players will have to be ready for a lot of cricket in the coming months.
