These 4 IPL five-fors ended up on the losing side

In ODIs, a five-wicket haul is considered to be equivalent to a century. Taking a five-wicket haul is more difficult in T20 cricket because you can bowl a maximum of 24 deliveries. Very few bowlers in the Indian Premier League have managed that distinction. Imagine their plight, that they still ended up on a losing side. Here are four such outstanding bowling performances that ended up in a defeat.

Ankit Rajput

In IPL 2018, Kings XI Punjab fast bowler Ankit Rajput began his opening spell brilliantly against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad. He dismissed SRH captain Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan cheaply and went on to take 5/14 from his four overs. However, SRH’s total of 132/6 proved adequate as KXIP stuttered to 119 all out.

James Faulkner

Another instance of Sunrisers Hyderabad succumbing to a five-wicket haul! In IPL 2013, Rajasthan’s all-rounder James Faulkner delivered an excellent spell against SRH in Hyderabad. His 5/16 including a maiden over stopped the opposition for 136/9. However, RR collapsed in reply and managed only 113/9 runs in 20 overs.

Sunil Narine

Sunil Narine’s mystery spin snared the best of Kings XI Punjab in KKR’s home ground in the 2012 season. The West Indian spinner snapped Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh and then wrapped up the tail to finish with 5/19. The Knight Riders struggled in the chase of 135 and needed nine runs off the final over. They fell short by two runs.

Munaf Patel

In IPL 2011, Mumbai Indians’ pace bowler Munaf Patel grabbed 5/21 runs against Kings XI Punjab at PCA Stadium, Mohali. However, Punjab recovered to score 163 runs in their 20 overs. Mumbai Indians collapsed against the disciplined Punjabi bowling lineup led by Bhargav Bhatt. They were all out for 87 and KXIP won the match by 76 runs.
