Maxwell returns to Lancashire for T20 Blast 2020

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has re-signed with Lancashire for the 2020 edition of England’s T20 Blast. The tournament is set to begin on May 28, immediately after the IPL. Maxwell will be available to play a minimum of eight matches in the North Group. He will then resume duties for the national team.

An asset for Lancashire

Maxwell was a vital cog for Lancashire in the 2019 season across formats. The swashbuckling batsman was instrumental in getting his team promoted to the first division of County Championships with his power-packed performances, especially in the T20 format. In 11 T20Is, he scored 305 runs at a whopping strike rate of 151. On his Lancashire debut, he announced his arrival with a 30-ball fifty. With an additional six wickets to his kitty, Maxwell finished as the 2019 T20 Player of the Year.

Despite dominating their group in the league stage, Lancashire failed to progress any further and ended up with a quarter-final finish last year. With the Australian back in the squad, they would be hoping to go all the way this time around.

“Can’t wait to return to OT”

“Last season was one of the best summers of cricket I have ever experienced and I cannot wait to return to Emirates Old Trafford in 2020,” Maxwell said.

Maxwell was last seen leading the Melbourne Stars to the 2019/20 Big Bash League final. Post the tournament, the batsman went under the knife for a recurring elbow injury, which also ruled him out of Australia’s limited-overs tour to South Africa. With the Indian Premier League and the T20 Blast lined up in succession, Maxwell’s participation will amp up Australia’s overall preparation for the T20 World Cup later this year.
