New Zealand U-19 uphold sportsmanship spirit with heart-warming gesture
Chasing 239 runs to secure a spot in the semi-finals, New Zealand collapsed to 153/8 in the 35th over. From thereon, Joseph Field and Kristian Clarke stitched an 86-run partnership to take the team home. Field featured in another heroic moment which took place earlier in the match. West Indies’ number four batsman Kirk McKenzie held his own in the first innings. While no other batsman scored more than 33, McKenzie eyed a World Cup century. He was dismissed on 99 by Clarke. West Indies were all out after his McKenzie’s fall. As teams started returning to the pavilion, the batsman was incapable of walking due to cramps. His excruciating attempt was witnessed by New Zealand fielders as well. Field and Jesse Tashkoff then stepped forward and carried McKenzie on their shoulders.
The gesture was shared from the twitter account of Cricket World Cup and soon reactions started pouring in on Twitter for the heroic act.
