TMGA unveils first Global Academy in Navi Mumbai

TMGA Launch

Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy (TMGA) launched its first Global Academy in Navi Mumbai today (28th January). The full-fledged academy and sports centre is stationed at DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai. Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was joined by former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli and former English captain Mike Gatting for the occasion.

Two years ago, the Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy (TMGA) was formed as a visionary joint venture between the Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar and Middlesex Cricket Club. The partnership has now launched the first-ever global academy at the incredible DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

TMGA has previously run a series of hugely successful training camps in London, Mumbai and Pune thus the opening of the partnership’s first Academy is a significant milestone. It also paves a way for their future vision of establishing a global network of TMGA Academies.

The Academy at the DY Patil Sports Academy will provide a unique opportunity to over 200 young cricket lovers from within and around the Navi Mumbai district. The Academy will function four times a week across the year, with over 150 focussed sessions built-in for each participant, delivered by an elite coaching team, influenced by Sachin Tendulkar himself and led by DY Patil’s TMGA Head Coach and former India Test cricketer, Vinod Kambli.

Speaking to the media, Tendulkar took a trip down memory lane and shed light on his own learnings.

“Whatever I am today is because of cricket. I consider this as an opportunity to give something back to the sport which has given me everything. There were a number of occasions where I was not able to perform to my expectations, I failed also.”

“But sport and the right team taught me to get back on my feet again and not find shortcuts. That is what I’m going to share with the kids here. There will be tough challenges along the way, don’t find shortcuts. Don’t cheat. You will get exposed in front of the whole world. This is not what we want you to learn here. We want you to learn the right values,” said the former Indian captain.
