Australia announce 14-man ODI squad for India tour
Australia have included Marnus Labuschagne in the ODI squad for their tour of India next year. His inclusion comes on the back of some brilliant form in Test cricket where he has accumulated over a 1000 runs in the 2019 calendar year. Glenn Maxwell despite being available after recovering from his mental health issues has been dropped from the side which will be led by Aaron Finch.
The batting department will be led by Steve Smith and David Warner along with skipper Finch. The middle-order will consist of Labuschagne, Ashton Turner and Peter Handscomb. Alex Carey will be the wicketkeeper-batsman as well as the designated finisher in the squad.
The selectors have included two spinners in the squad with leg-spinner Adam Zampa and left-arm spinner Ashton Agar getting the nod. The selectors have also decided to go with five pacers in the squad. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood will be the frontline seamers. The aforementioned pace battery will be backed up by Kane Richardson and Sean Abbott.
Speaking on the squad, national selector Trevor Hohns said:
“Similar to the Test team, we are wanting the white ball squad to continue the form of the unbeaten T20 Series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The performance of our white ball squads has been strong, and we are hoping to build the momentum towards the T20 World Cup at home at the end of the year and ultimately build towards the 2023 ICC World Cup in India.”
Australia will visit India for a three-match ODI series. The three matches will be played in Mumbai, Rajkot and Bengaluru respectively on 14th, 17th and 19th January.
