UNICEF Ambassador Sachin Tendulkar bats for brain development in Nepal
Former India captain and UNICEF South Asia Ambassador Sachin Tendulkar paid a two-day visit to Nepal to mark the 30th year of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Tendulkar was present at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Stadium, Kirtipur on Saturday to launch the ‘bat for brain development’ campaign.
UNICEF Nepal Country Office plans to raise awareness by organizing celebrity and children cricket matches in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.
The ‘Bat for Brain Development’ campaign is the sports for development initiative of UNICEF Nepal. The primary objective of this campaign is to create wider public awareness on the importance of nutrition for all ages, specifically focusing on maternal, child and adolescent nutrition under the broader framework of the Multi-Sector Nutrition Plan (MSNP), government policy on nutrition, through cricket matches and other outreach activities. In addition, this campaign also highlights the children’s rights through sports and other actions.

Tendulkar was joined by former Nepal captain Binod Das, who showed up to play a friendly cricket match against the Master Blaster. Team Sachin and Team Binod both comprised of school girls and boys from Nepal. Team Sachin won the contest in the end.
The following day, Tendulkar met with Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and also paid a visit to the holy Pashupati temple.
