IND vs BAN: 3rd T20I – Nagpur witnesses history as records tumble

Nagpur

The series decider between India and Bangladesh in Nagpur was certainly an eventful one. There was some high-quality cricket on display, as a few players showcased their individual brilliance. In the end, India’s overall quality prevailed, as they ended up winning the contest by 30 runs. Pacer Deepak Chahar was the star of the show, as he made a major case for his selection in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup next year.

Along with history being scripted with Chahar registering the best-ever bowling figures in T20I cricket, many more records were made during the Nagpur T20I. Here we take a look at a few of them:

Chahar’s history-making feat

Deepak Chahar was in menacing form, breaking the back of Bangladesh’s batting order. He registered stunning figures of 6/7 in only 3.2 overs, making it the best-ever spell in the history of T20I cricket. He overtook Sri Lankan mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis’ record of 6/8 against Zimbabwe at Hambantota in 2012. With wickets of Shafiul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Aminul Islam in consecutive deliveries, Chahar also became the first Indian bowler to pick a hat-trick in T20Is. He is only the eighth Indian bowler to pick up a hat-trick in international cricket.

A big milestone for Chahal

With dew being a major factor, Yuzvendra Chahal had a tough time in Nagpur. He still managed to pick up the crucial scalp of Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah, his 50th in T20Is. He brought up this feat in just 34 matches and becomes the 5th fastest to 50 wickets in T20Is. Chahal trails Ajantha Mendis (26 matches), Imran Tahir and Rashid Khan (31 matches) and Mustafizur Rahman (33 matches).

Naim’s moment of glory for Bangladesh

Mohammad Naim’s blistering knock of 81, kept Bangladesh alive in the contest for large parts. He played some sensational strokes, showcasing his precocious talent. His innings was the highest individual score by a Bangladeshi against India. He overtook Sabbir Rahman’s knock of 77 in Colombo in 2018. Naim’s partnership of 98 with Mohammed Mithun was also the highest partnership by a Bangladeshi pair against India.
