IND vs BAN: Records galore for Rohit Sharma during Rajkot T20I

Rohit

Rohit Sharma played a memorable knock as India thrashed Bangladesh in the second T20I in Rajkot. With the result, the series is now evenly poised at 1-1. The Indian bowlers first came up with a disciplined performance, as they restricted Bangladesh to a score of 153 on a belter of a batting deck. Sharma then went all guns blazing at the start, blowing the visitors out of the contest.

In the process, the stand-in Indian skipper also created history, as he broke many records. Here we take a look at a few of them.

Living up to his reputation

Rohit Sharma for a third time in a row has hit the most sixes in a calendar year. In 2019, Rohit has so far hit 66 sixes. In 2018 he hit 65 sixes and in 2017, he had 78 maximums to his name. The Hitman is surely living up to his fierce reputation.

Brings up a century

The game in Rajkot was Rohit’s 100th match in T20I cricket. He became the first Indian to bring up this milestone and only the second in international cricket. Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik has played the maximum number of T20Is, with 111 matches. Behind the pair, former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi played 99 games, while MS Dhoni has played 98 matches.

Overtakes Raina

Rohit has now played 320 T20 games in his career. This takes him ahead of Suresh Raina, who earlier held the record of most T20 games played by an Indian. Raina has played 319 T20 games in his career so far.

The Dhawan connection

Rohit had a partnership of 118 runs along with Shikhar Dhawan at the top of the order during the 2nd T20I. This was their fourth 100+ stand in T20I cricket, the most in history. David Warner and Shane Watson, Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson, Martin Guptill and Colin Munro and Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli all have 3 100+ partnerships to their name.

Joining the pantheon of greats

Rohit became the first Indian to play 100 T20Is for his country, joining a truly elite list of legends. Sunil Gavaskar was the first player to represent Indian 100 times in Test cricket. In the ODI format, Kapil Dev was the first Indian to accomplish this feat.
