The Hundred: ECB reveals first draft picks for innovative new format
Some high-profile names in English cricket have been snapped up by various franchises in the first draft of ‘The Hundred’. World Cup heroes Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and Jonny Bairstow have all been picked up by the eight franchises. Along with the revelation of the first-round draft picks, the names of the eight franchises were also revealed.

The Leeds-based franchises has been named Northern Superchargers with Ben Stokes representing them. The Manchester Ovals will have the destructive Jos Buttler leading their charge. Trent Rockets of Nottingham will have England Test captain Joe Root representing them. Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali will turn out for Birmingham Pheonix. Jonny Bairstow and upcoming batsman Tom Banton will play for the Welsh Fire. World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan will play for London Sprit. The Oval Invincibles will have Jason Roy and brothers Tom and Sam Curran in their roster. The Southern Braves of Southampton will have the pace of Jofra Archer in their armoury.
The draft also saw some high-profile English women’s cricketers being picked up by the various franchises. Heather Knight, Anya Shrubsole, Danni Wyatt, Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone all found a home during the draft.
The main draft of The Hundred which will include a number of high-profile national and international players will take place on October 20th.
