CPL 2019: Andre Russell cops a blow to the helmet, cleared of serious injury
West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell was struck by a serious blow to the helmet in the 2019 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. The incident occurred during the clash between Jamaica Tallawahs and St. Lucia Zouks at Sabina Part. Playing for the Tallawahs, Russell was hit by a bouncer by South African pacer Hardus Viljoen.
After being hit, Russell collapsed and was stretchered off the field. The Zouks players had to help Russell remove his helmet with the medical staff rushing on to the field. But he eventually got back on his feet and was carried off the field on a stretcher.

The incident occurred in the 14th over the contest, when Russell was batting on zero. Trying to attempt a pull shot, Russell was cramped for room and the ball ended up hitting his head.

Andre Russell was then taken to the hospital, where a CT scan was conducted. He was cleared by the doctors of any serious damage and was back in the team hotel. He has been advised rest by the doctors.
In his absence, the Tallawahs succumbed to their third straight loss in the tournament. Batting first, they could only put up a total of 170/5 in their quota of 20 overs. The Zouks chased the target down in only 16.4 overs, inflicting a heavy loss on the Jamaica-based franchise. The Tallawahs are yet to register a win in the 2019 edition of the tournament.
