The apology mail

Cricbuzz accessed the e-mail in which Karthik replied with an unconditional apology. He stated, “At the outset, I wish to state that I have not participated in Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in any capacity.”

“My coming to Trinidad was at the invitation of the newly appointed head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders Mr McCullum, who also happens to be the head coach of TKR. He felt that it will be useful for me as captain of KKR, to come for some discussions with him in regard to KKR.”

“I wish to tender my unconditional apology for not seeking permission from BCCI to embarking on this visit. I sincerely request this oversight be excused,” he concluded.

The Knight Riders connection

The Kolkata Knight Riders (IPL team) franchise also owns the Trinbago Knight Riders (CPL team). Karthik captains KKR in the IPL. Also, TKR has the same coaching personnel as that of the IPL team. The live-match broadcast showed KKR captain wearing a Trinbago jersey. He was sitting next to coach Brendon McCullum, and his personal mentor Abhishek Nayar. Both are on the coaching staff of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. The Kolkata side recently named McCullum as the head coach for the IPL 2020.
