WI A vs IND: Indians dominate second day with the ball

Indians

Indians remained on top of the proceedings on the second day of the three-day practice game against West Indies A at Antigua. Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav snapped three-wicket hauls as the visitors pocketed 116-run lead. Captain Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari saw off the day with India placed at 84/1 after 35 overs of play.

Indian bowlers keep West Indians on their toes

Rahane decided to declare on India’s overnight score of 287/5 and give his bowlers a go at the home side. It did not take long for the first wicket to fall. Ishant provided the first blow in the fifth over of the game and followed it up with another success in the ninth over. Daren Bravo and Jason Mohammed tried holding up an end but were sent back in regular intervals.

Opener Kavem Hodge was the only shining spot for the West Indians. Ishant accounted for him after the batsman had reached his fifty. Other than him, Jonathan Carter and Jahmar Hamilton gave useful contributions. Ishant and the Yadav duo picked nine wickets amongst them while Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini and Ravindra Jadeja went wicketless in their brief spells. India bowled West Indies out for just 181 runs in 56.1 overs.

Steady finish to the day

In a bid to get some more batting time under their belt, Agarwal and Rahane opened the innings for India. The former faced another disappointment as Romario Shepherd dismissed him on 11. Vihari replaced Agarwal and built a steady partnership with the Test vice-captain. Vihari finished the day with 48 runs from 84 balls while Rahane batted cautiously to post 20 runs from 95 balls. Both batsmen will look to get to the three-figure mark before the bowlers have another go at West Indies A. India currently leads by 200 runs.
