Watch: Williamson has his cake and eats it too

Kane Williamson has more than earned his reputation of being one of the most respected players in the game. His calm demeanour and efforts to always uphold the spirit of the game have won him fans all around the globe. New Zealand’s exploits at the World Cup under his leadership further won him more admirers.

Williamson’s fanbase in Sri Lanka came out in full force to celebrate what was his 29th birthday. Williamson was on the field in a tour match against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI in Katunayake. The Kiwis were partaking in the tour match in preparation of the commencement of their World Test Championship campaign against Sri Lanka.

Realizing it was Williamson’s birthday, a few fans in the ground brought him a special birthday cake. While many cricketers would have simply chosen to ignore the fans, Williamson chose to show his appreciation towards them. During the drinks break, the Kiwi skipper walked over towards the fans and graciously ate the birthday present which was offered to him.

After the end of day’s play, Williamson took to his Instagram account to thank the fans. Posting an Instagram story, he shared a picture of the cake:
