Gill, Fazal, Panchal to lead Duleep Trophy teams
Star Indian batsman Shubman Gill is set to lead one of the teams in the 2019-20 Duleep Trophy. BCCI’s selection committee announced the three squads for the tournament on Tuesday. 19-year-old Gill will be captaining the India Blue side featuring youngster Ruturaj Gaikwad, legspinner Shreyas Gopal, all-rounder Jalaj Saxena, among others. Saurashtra batsman Snell Patel is the designated wicketkeeper.
Alongside Gill, Vidarbha sensation Faiz Fazal and Gujarat batsman Priyank Panchal have also been handed captaincy stints for the tournament. Fazal will lead a 15-man India Green squad that will include upcoming stars such as Rahul Chahar, Siddhesh Lad, Jayant Yadav and the likes.
Panchal, known for being a run-machine in the Ranji Trophy, will lead India Red. He will captain a strong bunch of performers in Karun Nair, Jaydev Unadkat, Varun Aaron, Axar Patel and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. Opening batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran, who recently toured the Windies as part of India A, will also be part of the squad.
The Duleep Trophy will commence in Bangalore on August 17 and end on September 8.
