WI vs IND – How have current Indian Test batsmen fared in Caribbean

Tests

After the heart-breaking exit from the 2019 World Cup, the Indian team will now head to the Caribbean islands for a full-fledged tour. The series includes three T20Is, three ODIs and two Test matches. Virat Kohli shall be leading all three sides. The tour begins with the T20I match on 3rd August.

Keeping an eye on the Test series, here is how current Indian batsmen have fared in West Indies against West Indies.

Virat Kohli

The Indian run-machine does not have an incredible record in the West Indies. The captain has played in previous two tours and has 327 runs from seven Test matches. A bulk of his runs were scored in Antigua where he celebrated his only 50-plus score, a double century. After a decent outing in the World Cup, he will be hoping to up his average.

KL Rahul

The opener has been in a horrible form in the longest format of the game. He struggled in English and Australian conditions but will be hoping to make amends in this tour. In three Tests, he has amassed 236 runs with one century and a fifty.

Cheteshwar Pujara

In three Tests played in West Indies, Pujara has played only two innings. In these brief outings, he has scored 62 runs with his highest score being 46.

Ajinkya Rahane

India’s Test vice-captain has been very successful on the Caribbean tracks. The middle-order batsman has scored 243 runs in four Test matches at an astronomical average of 121.5. He has one century and one fifty in West Indies. After missing out from the ODI selection, this will be a chance for Rahane to show his batting calibre.

Rohit Sharma

An immensely successful limited-overs batsman, Rohit will be looking to seal his spot in the Test team as well. This West Indies tour will be a perfect opportunity for him. So far, he has played only two innings in West Indies and has 50 runs from those outings.

Wriddhiman Saha

Returning from a severe injury, this will be a crucial opportunity for Saha. With Rishabh Pant showing his batting prowess in previous tours, Saha will be under pressure to perform in this series. The first-choice wicketkeeper averages 51.25 in West Indies. He has scored 205 runs from four Tests with one century.

Ravichandran Ashwin

West Indies have been R Ashwin’s favourite opponent in Test cricket. The off-spinner has a liking for West Indian bowlers. He has 235 runs from four matches at an average around 59. From the current squad, he is the only batsman to have scored two hundreds in West Indies.
