Nitish Reddy gets grand welcome in Vizag after BGT success

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 might have ended on a disappointing note for the Indian team, ending their decade-long dominance over Australia with a 3-1 series loss, but some individual performances stood out. One such performance was from Nitish Kumar Reddy, playing his debut Test series. The all-rounder played all five games in the series, and scored 298 runs, while also taking five wickets with the ball.

However, the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was the highlight for Reddy, as he notched up a sensational ton in the Boxing Day Test. Although his knock could not save India from losing the game, Reddy earned massive praise from experts and fans alike for his sheer dominance on Australian soil.

As the series ended, the cricketer returned to India on Thursday, January 9. Upon reaching the airport at Visakhapatnam, his hometown, Reddy received a hero’s welcome from the locals. Fans welcomed the star with garlands and celebrated his arrival after a successful tour. His father Mutyalu was also present there sitting behind him in the jeep while the fans tried to get a glimpse of the next upcoming star all-rounder of Indian cricket.

Nitish Reddy has already entered the record books in his first-ever Test series playing for India. Apart from being the first batter to score a century at No. 8, he also emerged as the third-youngest Indian batter to score a century Down Under at the age of 21 years and 256 days and is only behind Sachin Tendulkar (18 years 256 days) and Rishabh Pant (21 years 92 days).
