IPL 2025 mega auction to be held in Jeddah on November 24, 25

A media advisory from the Indian Premier League disclosed all the details regarding the highly anticipated mega auction for the 18th edition of the cash-rich league.

The release revealed that the mega auction will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25. A whopping 1574 players signed up for the event after registrations were officially closed on November 4, 2024. 1165 Indian and 409 overseas players are among the participants.

The break-up of the total registrations is as follows:

Capped Players: 320

Uncapped Players: 1,224

Players from Associate Nations: 30

48 of the 320 are capped Indians while the remaining 272 are capped overseas players. As for the uncapped players, the Indians who were a part of previous IPL seasons make up 152, 3 players are such that they are internationals who were part of previous IPL seasons, 104 players are uncapped internationals, and a grand 965 of them are uncapped Indians.

The press release, which has been corroborated by the Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jay Shah, also states that 204 slots will be up for grabs at the mega auction considering the maximum limit of 25 players for each franchise.

For the unversed, the Deadline Day for the franchises to finalize their retentions has already been done and dusted, with each side submitting their retentions. The key lowdown of that day was the numerous instances of key players not being retained by their franchises. It will be intriguing to see how each side pans out eventually when it comes to the event later this month.
