Rohit Sharma returns to the top 5 in ICC Test batters rankings
For the first time since September 2021, Indian captain Rohit Sharma made his way back into the top five in the ICC Test rankings for batters. The seasoned campaigner is the highest-ranked Indian batter in the list updated by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, September 11.
Compatriots, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal, also rose to No. 6 and No. 7, respectively, in the latest rankings. The troika of Rohit, Kohli, and Jaiswal will have the chance to improve their rankings during the two-match home Test series against Bangladesh, beginning on Thursday, September 19.
Jaiswal broke several records during India’s last Test assignment, which was at home against England earlier this year. The southpaw amassed 712 runs at a jaw-dropping average of 89 from nine innings against the Brits. Jaiswal hit two double centuries during the series. Meanwhile, Rohit also stamped his authority by aggregating 400 runs at the top of the order at an average of 44 from nine innings. Kohli, however, opted out of the series due to personal reasons.
