WTC Final 2025 dates and venue announced
The International Cricket Council has announced the dates for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final for the 2023-25 cycle. The dates for the staked red-ball event were revealed as the ICC started the registration for the tickets to the game, which is scheduled to be played from June 11 to 15. As expected, Lord’s Cricket Ground, the historic venue in the City of London, will see the top-tier teams face off for the Test mace.
As many as thirteen bilateral series will decide the fate of the finalists, as the majority of the teams are in contention for the road to the finals. Speaking of the table position, India, the runners-up on both of the previous editions in 2021 and 2023, respectively, currently enjoys the top seat, with 68.52 points percentage (PCT) wins. They are followed by Australia (62.50 PCT), New Zealand (50.00 PCT) and England (45.00 PCT).
Both the finalists for the 2025 event are expected to be confirmed by the end of Australia’s tour to Sri Lanka, the last assignment for the ongoing cycle.
India and Australia remain the top contenders, likely crossing swords for the second consecutive finale. However, both will be playing a five-match Test series, starting November 22 with the first match at Perth. This is an all-important series for both counterparts, as it will not only help them strengthen their standings at the table but also fight for the retention of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, currently reigned by the Indians.
Meanwhile, the next two in the list of strongest contenders – New Zealand and England, will be up against each other for three Tests, as the visiting English side will look to overtake the BlackCaps and give themselves a chance to storm through the top two, for what could be their first finale, that too at home.
