Suryakumar Yadav aims to be back on Test team
Star India batter Suryakumar Yadav recently came forward and claimed that he wants to have some fun in red-ball cricket but opined that the road to making a comeback in India’s Test side is not going to be easy. Currently, it has been understood that the likes of Sarfaraz Khan and Shreyas Iyer, along with KL Rahul and Rajat Patidar, are ahead of him in the pecking order; however, that is not demotivating Suryakumar Yadav.
The 33-year-old claimed that there have been a lot of people who have worked hard to earn their place in the longest format, and he wants to be one of them as well.
“There are a lot of people who have worked really hard to earn their place and even I want to earn that spot again,” Suryakumar Yadav said on the sidelines of the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament.
“I made my debut for India in Tests. After that, I got injured as well. There were a lot of people who got an opportunity and have done well too. They deserve that opportunity right now,” he added.
What’s in my power right now is to play the Buchi Babu tournament: Suryakumar Yadav
Furthermore, Suryakumar Yadav opined that he is focusing on things that are in his control. He revealed that he is just focused on playing the Buchi Babu tournament and the Duleep Trophy, and is looking forward to what happens then.
“Going forward, if I have to play, then I will automatically play. That’s not in my control. What’s in my power right now is to play the Buchi Babu tournament, go on to play the Duleep Trophy and then see what happens. But yes, I’m really looking forward. There are ten Test matches lined up and I’m obviously excited for some red-ball fun,” he said.
It is worth noting that the star batter has not played a game of red-ball cricket since last year’s Duleep Trophy. He has struggled with injuries since then and hopes that the domestic tournaments will help him earn his way back into the Test squad.
