Watch: Rohit Sharma trains along with Abhishek Nayar
India’s captain Rohit Sharma was recently spotted training in a park in Mumbai and is gearing up for the packed Test schedule starting in September.
The year 2024 has been memorable for Indian cricket, with the team clinching the T20 World Cup under the 37-year-old’s leadership, ending an 11-year ICC trophy drought.
As the side focuses on the longer format, Sharma faces the challenge of guiding India to their third consecutive World Test Championship (WTC) final.
In a video that surfaced on social media platform X, Sharma was seen engaged in an intense running session in a park, supervised by India’s newly appointed assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.
India to face Bangladesh for two-match Test series
The Men in Blue are coming off a disappointing ODI series loss against Sri Lanka last month. However, Sharma’s performance stood out, as he emerged as the highest run-getter of the series with consistent scores of 58, 64, and 35.
Looking ahead, India’s Test calendar is packed with crucial encounters. The side begins their schedule by facing Bangladesh for a two-match Test series starting on September 19. Then they face New Zealand in a three-Test home series in October, before taking on Australia in a five-match Test series beginning in November.
Sharma’s form in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle 2023-25 has been impressive. He currently stands as India’s second-highest run-scorer, scoring 700 runs from nine matches at an average of 46.66, including three centuries and three half-centuries.
His performance will be crucial as India, currently topping the WTC points table with a percentage of 68.51%, aims to maintain their lead over second-placed Australia.
Meanwhile, the other Indian team members will be participating in the upcoming Duleep Trophy ahead of the Bangladesh home series.
