Mahmudul Hasan Joy ruled out of the Pakistan Tests with groin injury

While things looked optimistic for Bangladesh following an early arrival to Pakistan courtesy of PCB amid the ongoing political turmoil back home, the visitors were hit with a setback as Mahmudul Hasan Joy has been sidelined for at least three weeks after injuring his right groin.

The 23-year-old will miss out on valuable playing time after looking in good nick in the four-day game against Pakistan Shaheens in Islamabad. The unfortunate turn of events transpired while fielding in one of the games though, after which he couldn’t bat in the second innings of the game

“We have received a mail regarding Mahmudul where it is stated that he sustained injury to his right groin and as a result, he is being rested for three weeks,” stated BCB chief physician, Debashish Chowdhury, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim, who was included in Bangladesh A squad in a bid to get acclimatized with the conditions, having last played a Test in December 2023, spoke on the finger injury he picked while playing the four-day game. He also provided an update on his recuperation from it ahead of the series.

“In the second innings (before going to bat), I got hurt in my finger so I did not bat. Hopefully, I will recover very soon and inshallah, I will play in the first Test,” mentioned Mushfiqur in a statement provided by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

The opening Test is scheduled from August 21 in Rawalpindi while the second Test will be played in Karachi from August 30.
