5 players you don’t know who have won an IPL trophy

Over the years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a fantastic platform for young players to grow in competitive cricket. Several franchises have won the tournament multiple times. However, there have also been some players, who were a part of the IPL winning teams in the past, but are not known to the cricket fans. On that note, five players you don’t know who have won an IPL trophy.

Sanju Samson (KKR in IPL 2012)

The current skipper and wicketkeeper-batter for the Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson has also won an IPL trophy as he was a part of Kolkata Knight Riders. However, the right-handed batter could not get a chance to play in any of the games amid tough competition with the presence of some senior batters including Yusuf Pathan, Shakib Al Hasan, and Manoj Tiwary. Under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, KKR scripted history to lift the first-ever title in IPL history.

Axar Patel (MI in IPL 2013)

Axar Patel was picked by the five-time champions Mumbai Indians during the IPL 2013 auction. However, the spin all-rounder had tough competition in Pragyan Ojha and Harbhajan Singh, and could not get the opportunity to represent the team. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, MI won the Indian Premier League trophy for the first time in the history of the tournament.

Deepak Hooda (SRH in IPL 2016)

Deepak Hooda was bagged by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping amount of INR 4.2 crore in IPL 2016 auction. To note, the amount was 42 times his base price of INR 10 Lakhs. Although he could only manage to score 144 runs in 17 appearances, averaging only 10.28, his team went to grab their maiden IPL title beating the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Wriddhiman Saha (CSK in IPL 2011)

After representing two-time champions KKR from 2008 to 2010, wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the 2011 edition as the backup to skipper MS Dhoni. In seven appearances for CSK, Saha could manage to score only 68 runs. However, he was part of the CSK squad which successfully managed to defend their title and win two back-to-back IPL trophies.

Thisara Perera (CSK in IPL 2010)

The Sri Lankan allrounder made his IPL debut in 2010. Representing CSK, the powerful allrounder could feature in only one game, where he bowled a single over and gave away 19 runs. However, he could have been the lucky charm CSK were waiting for, as the Yellow Army was successful in lifting their maiden IPL trophy.
