5 Players who have a better T20I batting average than Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the greatest modern-day batsmen to have graced the game of cricket. Often players are compared with him when they are achieving something big, it is stated that they are yet to match his level. Bagging the top spot constantly in ICC ODI ranking of batsmen, he continues to maintain his supremacy.

On the other hand, there are several other players around the world who don’t gain much attention even though they are performing. Let’s discuss some players who have a better T20I average than Virat Kohli.

5. Hiren Varaiya- 51.00

The Nairobi-born Hiren Varaiya played for the Kenya team during 2006-2018. The left-arm spinner was known for performing in any format of the game but wasn’t much known for his batting. However, he remained not out in 11 out of the 12 innings he played in his career of 25 matches in T20Is. The Kenyan player has a stunning average of 51.00 in the T20I cricket.

4. Matthew Hayden- 51.33

Though T20I cricket got going a little late for Australian great Matthew Hayden. He got to appear in nine matches during his T20I career, and six out of those games were part of T20 WC 2007. He retired in the year 2009 but played his last T20I in 2007 only and scored 308 runs with a brilliant average of 51.33. He also maintained a splendid strike rate of 143.92. During the time of WT20, he scored 265 runs at an average of 88.33.

3. Usman Limbada- 53.00

Usman Limabada kept switching in and out of the Canada team during the early 2010s. He was a specialist middle-order batsman but never remained a regular feature of the game due to his inconsistent performance. The batsman got to play only three T20Is during 2010. Later, he was part of the team in the 2014 WT20 qualifier. Usman last appeared for Canada in 2017 in any of the formats and doesn’t seem he will appear again for T20I. During his on and off a career with his team, he maintained a great average of 53.00.

2. Marcus Trescothick- 55.33

Marcus was undoubtedly England’s greatest batsman irrespective of the format. He couldn’t be part of many T20I games as the format was only introduced one year before he decided to quit the game. Despite being one brilliant batsman, his career came to an abrupt end at the age of 30 due to his mental health issues. He played two T20Is in 2006 against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He scored terrific half-centuries in both the games and maintained a stunning average of 55.33.

1. Travis Dowlin- 68.00

Dowlin will be remembered for ages for being MS Dhoni’s only victim while he came out to bowl.  He appeared only in six Tests, 11 ODIs, and two T20Is for West Indies during 2009-10 and made his T20I debut in the year 2009 against Bangladesh. His last and second T20I was during the Australian tour at SCG. During his short career, he scored 68 runs in both the innings of T20I he played. Thus, his average stands at 68 only.
