5 longest winning streaks in ODI history

Australia

The very first One Day International (ODI) cricket match was played on January 5, 1971, between the arch-rivals England and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Since then, several nations have dominated the format. On that note, let us look at the five longest winning streaks in ODI history.

5. England Women (13 matches)

Team England come fifth on the list with a winning streak of 13 matches. During a course of more than two years, England beat sides including Netherland, Denmark and Ireland. England won their 13th match against Denmark after they thrashed their opponents by 179 runs in July 1991.

4. Australia and India women (16 matches)

Both Australia and India come fourth on the list with a winning streak of 16 matches. Australia winning run started in February 1999 after they beat their neighbouring country New Zealand. The streak remained intact for more than one year with their 16th win comings against South Africa Women in December 2000.

On the other hand, the Women in Blue also had a winning streak of 16 matches, which started against Australia in Hobart in February 2016. Team India remained unbeaten for more than a year with their last win of the streak coming against Ireland Women in May 2017.

3. Australia Women (17 matches)

Just like the men’s squad, Australia women have been the dominant force in women’s cricket. Captained by Belinda Clarke, Australia went on win 17 matches on the trot between December 1997 and February 1999. The Women in Yellow started their streak in the World Cup being conducted in India. The mighty Australians won the tournament. The streak ended during a series against South Africa Women.

2. Australia (21 matches)

The Men in Yellow had a glorious run in 2003 when they won a total of 21 ODIs without losing a single match between January and May. The mighty Australians, under the captaincy of skipper Ricky Ponting, also won the 2003 World Cup. Even after 19 years, the record is still to be broken in the men’s cricket arena.

1. Australia Women (26 matches)

Australia Women registered the longest-ever winning streak in ODI cricket, going past their men’s team record of 21 games after beating New Zealand in April 2021. The women in yellow went on to extend their streak by winning the next four matches before they were handed a defeat at the hands of team India. Coincidentally, Australia started their streak by beating the women in blue in March 2018.
