No team in any format likes to face a defeat. A team enters the field with a mindset of just a victory. No side in any sport likes to come second as nothing but a win is always targeted. Losing consecutive matches in the 50-overs format is a real shame but the game of cricket has seen this happening with some teams.
Let’s take a look at 5 longest losing streaks in Women’s ODI cricket:
5.Ireland (14)
The Irish team has suffered 14 consecutive losses in the ODI format. Their first loss came against Bangladesh in Belfast on September 10 in 2016. Ireland’s poor run in the 50-overs format stretched to 14 games on the trot and ended against Zimbabwe in Harare in October 2021.
4.Pakistan (15 times twice)
The Women in Green have faced defeats in 15 consecutive ODI matches twice. Their first bad run started with a loss against New Zealand in January 1997 and the last ODI of the streak was against Ireland in August 2000. Pakistan’s second such streak began with a loss against West Indies in Karachi in March 2004 and ran until they the game against South Africa in Pretoria in January 2007.
3.Sri Lanka (19)
Sri Lanka have faced losses in 19 straight matches. The streak began with a defeat against West Indies in Colombo (RPS) in May 2015 and their 19th loss came against neighbours India in Colombo (PSS) in February 2017.
2.Netherlands (20)
Netherland have lost 20 ODI matches on the bounce. The Dutch side lost to Denmark in Husum in July 1998 and that’s when their streak began. The last of the 20 consecutive defeats came against Pakistan in Karachi in April 2001.
1. Netherlands (22)
Netherlands also holds the record for most consecutive defeats in the ODI format. They suffered 22 losses in the 50-overs game, It started with a loss against Ireland in Miskin in August 2005. Their streak continued till they lost their 22nd match six years later against Ireland in Colombo (Colts) in April 2011.
