5 current players to be involved in most tied matches in international cricket
Over the years, cricket has seen several close encounters. While there have been several matches that have gone down to the last ball, some of them have ended in a tie. When both the teams play equally well, they end up scoring the same number of runs and thus, none of them wins. However, an optimist would say that neither of the two teams ends up losing the game.
Here are 5 current players to be involved in the most tied matches in international cricket
6- Ravindra Jadeja:
Although Ravindra Jadeja has featured in six tied games, he was the star in one of them. During the third of the five-match one-day series against New Zealand in 2014, India were chasing 315 to win the game. Despite the game being almost done and dusted, the all-rounder instilled life into the game and went on to score a brilliant and unbeaten 66 off just 45 deliveries. This ensured that the men in blue ended up scoring the same number of runs as the Black Caps. Moreover, Jadeja had also taken two wickets in the first innings.
7 – Virat Kohli:
The first tied game which Virat Kohli played was against England during the ODI WC in 2011. Since then, he has featured in six more such games. One of these matches happened to be a match against the Windies in 2019. In this game, the 33-year-old scored a magnificent hundred.
8 – Tim Southee:
Tim Southee has had his fair share of experiences in tied matches as he has gone on to bowl thrice in the Super Over as well. One of them being against the West Indies during the 2012 T20 WC, the other against England during the fifth T20I in 2019, and the third being against India in 2020. However, unfortunately, his side has gone on to lose all three games.
8 – Martin Guptill:
Kiwi players and tied games are a match made in heaven. However, among all the eight tied games in which Martin Guptill has played, the most infamous one would have to be the ICC ODI WC 2019 Final. After England and New Zealand ended up at scores levelled, there was a Super Over to decide the World Cup winner. However, as the Williamson-led side required two to win off the final ball of the Super Over, Guptill failed to complete the second run and thus, England went on to win the game in a dramatic manner and were crowned world champions by virtue of having hit more boundaries.
10 – Ross Taylor:
Ross Taylor has played the most tied games in the history of cricket. As a matter of fact, he was the reason why one of the games turned out to be a tie. It was the third of the five-match T20I series against India in 2020 when Taylor failed to score a run off the last ball and thus, the scores were levelled. There was then a Super Over which saw the Kohli-led side emerge victoriously.
